Shape: conical bowl with plain rim and moderately high foot ring. Interior: rim is painted with a band of lustre, while the body is covered with a six panel pattern radiating from a central star; the latter painted in lustre with light scratching. The panels alternate between a circular pattern of scrolling vines and leaves, painted in reserve against a lustred ground, and a more complex theme including Arabic script (cursive), also painted in reserve, alongside bands or palmettes both containing scrolls painted in lustre. Separating these panels, vertical friezes of Arabic script (cursive) are painted in lustre. Exterior: on the body, a repeating, but roughly painted, chain-stripe motif is contained between two thick bands of lustre Glaze runs unevenly over the lower body and onto the foot ring in places. Burn mark on a section of the rim results from firing.
