  <description>
    <value>Earthenware, hand-formed (rolled pottery technique) painted with grey and pink slips. An elderly don, wearing a suit and academic gown, stands with his right hand in hispocket, addressing a gardener, who is obstinately resisting persuasion. The gardener wears a cloth cap, a shirt and tie, trousers, and a check waistcoat. He rests his hands on the top of a besom. The rectangular base has canted corners, and is decorated with painted leaves.</value>
