object type: Buff earthenware, tin-glazed and painted in blue, green, yellow, and red. Square in plan with deep sloping sides, two of which on opposing sides have a winged cherub's head applied in relief. The angles and top are edged with a twisted rope in relief, and on each top corner there is an acorn finial. The rope and acorns are painted blue. The sides are decorated in polychrome with small birds among flowering plants and rocks.

value: Said to have come from 'a very good family' in Reach, Cambridgeshire by Mr Morley, a Cambridge dealer, who sold it in April to Mr J.C.C. Boger, an undergraduate at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Boger sold it for 17s. 6d, on 4 June 1894 to Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
