object type: Grey stoneware, thrown, decorated with slip, and semi-matt glaze, and fired. Of inverted baluster form with a short cleft on the handle side; short cylindrical neck with vertical rim, and semi-circular, upward-sloping spout, higher on one side than the other; and horizontal loop handle over the cleft in the body. The jar is decorated with an approximately circular area of greenish-grey mottled slip round the handle, and another echoing the shape of the vessel down the front.
