      <note>
        <value>Teapots of this type were made by several potters, including William Greatbatch, Thomas Whieldon at Fenton Vivian, and a site at Town Road, Hanley. It was obviously popular and widely produced as the body occurs with many different combinations of handles, spouts, and knobs. The reliefs on the panels on the sides were derived from George Edwards and Matthew Darly, New Book of Chinese designs Calculated to Improve the present Taste . . . , London, 1754.</value>
