      <note>
        <value>The crest is that of the Verner (or Vernor) family of Vernor's Bridge, County Armagh, Ireland. The initials are those of Thomas Verner (d. 1788) for whom the bowl was probably made. The inscription is taken from a version of a ballad 'Down among the Dead Men' with words by the Welsh poet John Dyer (1700-58): 'Here's a health to the Queen, and a lasting peace/To faction an end, and to wealth increase,/Come let's drink it while we have breath,/For there's no drinking after death,/And he that will this health deny/Down among the dead men let him lie'. In the original the Queen referred to was Queen Ann. Some later versions begin 'Here's a health to the King'.</value>
