object type: Dark buff earthenware, thrown, the front coated in cream slip, slip trailed in brown and dark brown, 'jewelled' in white slip, and covered with yellowish lead glaze. The reverse is undecorated. Circular with a wide sloping rim, and a well with curved sides and a flat central area. The well is occupied by a lady with a tiny waist, holding up a stem of flowers in each hand. She wears a low-necked bodice with puff sleeves, and a bell-shaped skirt with a striped apron. On each side of her there is leaf (or butterfly) and a bust of a bewigged and crowned man, probably Charles II. the rim is decorated with a trellis border, broken at the bottom by a panel slip-trailed in dark brown with the name and date 'RALPH:TOFT 1677'.
