Earthenware, tin-glazed creamy-white on both sides, more thickly than elsewhere round the remains of the foot. Painted in blue, several shades of green, yellow, and brown, with manganese outlines. Circular with narrow rim and wide, shallow centre; the whole slightly warped. In the middle of the underside there is a circular depression containing the remains of a foot. The Judgement of Paris. The three scantily draped goddesses are in the foreground, Juno and Venus standing and Minerva kneeling beside her armour. Further back on a hill, Paris, dressed as a shepherd, is seated with his bagpipes resting on his knee, holding in his right hand an apple inscribed `pulcrior/l.donu' (a gift for the more beautiful). A dog lies at his feet. The landscape background is filled with gambolling goats and sheep, and a horse. On the rim there is a border of stylised leaves between pairs of blue bands.
