Earthenware, tin-glazed overall, the dish almost mat with speckles, the underside of the base pale beige. Painted in blue, green, turquoise, yellow, orange, brown, manganese-purple, and black. Circular with shallow upturned sides and, on the underside, a rib encircling the junction of the dish and foot. The foot has a moulded edge and a swelling at the top. In the middle, Charity sits on a rock with two children standing beside her in a landscape encircled by simulated beading with yellow and orange `rope' edges. The sides are decorated with radiating grotesques interrupted at the top by an oval shield charged with the arms party per fess vert and argent, two eels or serpents entwined between two flowering plants gules, ensigned by a prelate's hat and flanked by tassels arranged one, two, three. Round the rim is a narrow orange band and a wider yellow band decorated with orange, blue, black, and white strokes. On the back, grotesques radiate from a circle of simulated beading between yellow and orange `rope' edges.
