The barrel-shaped flask rests on its side on a small oval foot with a hole at each end. It has a mouth in the centre of the side at the top, flanked by volute handles to take a carrying cord, and a short spout projecting below on one side. Above it is the name 'francois deschmps' p in black, and on either side of the spout, the date '1739'. One end of the barrel is inscribed 'le.21.aoust/1739' in black with graduated blue strokes above and below. The other end, has 'W' flanked by three curved strokes, over 'Bachus et./.Son jus.'painted in black with a row of short blue strokes below. The curved side below the date '1739' is decorated with an arrangement of foliated scrolls, and the other side with a larger arrangement with groups of four spots above. Two narrow black bands encircle the top and bottom of the barrel's sides, and the ends are encircled by one band.
