The sides of the barrel are divided into three sections by slightly raised hoops, and the circular ends are recessed. One end has a small hole near the edge to take a spigot, and there is a larger rimmed hole in the middle section on one side for a bung. The sides are encircled by four pairs of a black and a yellow horizontal band to create three sections. The central, wider section, is decorated with two vine sprays tied by a red ribbon below the hole for the bung. The narrower upper and lower sections each have a shorter spray of vine leaves.
