The circular bowl has deep sides, and stands on a footring. On either side it has a horizontal triangular lug painted with a fleur-de-lys. The domed cover has a mushroom-shaped knob, and underneath the rim, a flange which fits inside the rim of the bowl. The inside of the bowl is painted with St Joseph leading the Christ Child by the hand with three small trees behind them, titled below 'St..Joseph'. Round the top of the sides are four sprays of flowers and foliage alternating with four smaller sprigs. The exterior has an arrangement of flowers and foliage on each side. The cover is decorated with two crossed anchors, three arrangements of flowers and foliage, and five insects. The top of the knob is painted to resemble a pink or carnation. The name, Joseph Bourdault is painted on the cover around the knob with below it Aspire a Ce que le nom et le Coeur/De Cel Sy desou passe au Sien 1764'. On the underside of the cover is a figure of St Margaret leading a dragon by a chain, with above 'Mademoiselle, Colinau' and below.
