object type: Buff earthenware, tin-glazed on the front and painted in dark blue, green, yellow, orange, and manganese-purple; the reverse, has unevenly applied lead-glaze appearing mottled pale brown. Part of a circular dish with a wide rim and shallow well, standing on a footring pierced by a suspension hole; three spur marks in the middle of the front; three turned bands close to edge on the reverse. the dish is decorated in the middle with a circular medallion formed by yellow, orange, dark blue and manganese-purple  concentric circles, enclosing the Sacred Trigram 'yhs' in blue Gothic characters.  The rim is divided into compartments by dark blue radial lines edged by a narrow and a wide dark blue band round the outer edge. These are filled alternately by a spray of green foliage with a dark blue flower and a geometrical motif comprising a blue St Andrew cross with curved  of  blue and manganese-purple lines between the arms.
