Tobias' mother Anna, was obliged to earn money by weaving cloth because her husband Tobit has been blinded. One day she sold a length of cloth and the buyer gave her goat in addition to her payment. When she reached home her husband thought that she had stolen the goat and demanded that she return it to the owner. Anna was justifiably angry because her husband thought she could be a thief, and she berated him for his lack of charity."},{"value":"The source of the design on the fragment was an engraving of Tobit, Anna and the Goat made by Cornelis Metsys (1510\/1511-1556\/1557) about 1550. The same scene is depicted on the side of a large jug signed F\/IAB in monogram, and dated 1562 in the Mus\u00e9es royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Brussels (inv. I.A. 5931). It is also depicted on the first of four large tile panels telling the story of Tobias accompanied by panels of ornamental designs in the ducal palace at Vila Vi\u00e7osa, Portugal. Two tiles are dated 1558 and one bears the same monogram as the jug. They have been attributed to Antwerp, either to the Den Salm (The Salmon) workshop directed by Franchois Frans from 1543 to 1561\/2, or to Jan Bogaerts, an Antwerp potter who became a master in 1552. Frans was succeeded as director of Den Salm by Lucas Andries from 1562 to 1573, when he was recorded in Colchester, and died in that year. His brother Jasper Andries, also a potter, had emigrated to Norwich in 1567 together with Jacob Jenson, who had moved to Aldgate in London by 1571. However, despite the presence of these Netherlandish potters in England, it seems likely that the plate would have been imported from Antwerp."}],"periods":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-125332","uid":"adlib-term-125332","uuid":"76f10b5d-9bf4-36d4-b4e3-f4df05af8260"},"summary_title":"16th Century, third quarter"}],"places":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-106715","uid":"adlib-term-106715","uuid":"490b251e-2de6-3f83-a13b-7f81a75bb458"},"hierarchies":[[{"@link":{"type":"literal"},"name":[{"value":"Southern Netherlands"}],"summary_title":"Southern Netherlands","type":"country"}]],"summary_title":"Antwerp"}]}]},"materials":[{"note":[{"value":"buff"}],"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-42861","uid":"adlib-term-42861","uuid":"5b368285-f1a8-3dcf-a5b2-637fd3c3956c"},"summary_title":"earthenware"}}],"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"Depth","units":"cm","value":"1.2"},{"dimension":"Length","units":"cm","value":"8.7"},{"dimension":"Width","units":"cm","value":"7.6"}]},"multimedia":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"media-40001","uid":"adlib-media-40001","uuid":"2836544b-4288-30c3-b2fd-615a6f237b92"},"processed":{"large":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/C_2400_1928_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1616245918673,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"mid":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/mid_C_2400_1928_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":649},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":500}]},"modified":1616245918673,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"original":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/C_2400_1928_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1616245918673,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"preview":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/preview_C_2400_1928_281_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":325},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":250}]},"modified":1616245918673,"resizable":true,"type":"image"}},"sort":"0","type":{"base":"media","type":"image"}},{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"media-40002","uid":"adlib-media-40002","uuid":"dd83e120-cc12-3fae-aec6-cd049d7c5e46"},"processed":{"large":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/C_2400_1928_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1616281497426,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"mid":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/mid_C_2400_1928_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":649},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":500}]},"modified":1616281497426,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"original":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/C_2400_1928_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1616281497426,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"preview":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa5\/preview_C_2400_1928_282_29.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":325},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":250}]},"modified":1616281497426,"resizable":true,"type":"image"}},"sort":"1","type":{"base":"media","type":"image"}}],"name":[{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-116855","uid":"adlib-term-116855","uuid":"46a41183-a36b-38f0-b879-0a73e0df96a0"},"summary_title":"fragment of dish centre"}},{"value":"sherd of dish centre"}],"note":[{"type":"history note","value":"Cambridge; found in 1897 in Christ's Lane, beneath some old cottages in a well by the side of an old clunch wall; the find site was recorded as No. 20 in a notebook recording the pottery finds of Mr S.J.
