There are two suspension holes in the footring at right angles to each other (at bottom of scene and right when back is facing viewer).                                                                      The ground is bleu nouveau vermicul\u00e9 d'or. The central oval reserve is framed by a gold band with tooled striations, and painted in polychrome with a scene depicting a woman, a merchant, and sailors on a wharf, with cliffs and the sea in the background. One box on the left below the mast is inscribed 'J A' and another '1759'. The box with a jar on top is inscribed 'R' with a six-armed cross formed by two triangles beside it. The large bale on the right is inscribed on the left of its end: interlaced Cs with below, '2' with reversed 'S' beside it, upside down when the scene is the correct way up; and on the right side of the end with a double lined cross and on either side of the cord, 'XX'. On the left of its top 'JV' and top right an 'H' with to its left another not legible sign. (see Documentation, Savill, 1988, III) The plateau H\u00e9bert, which was used to support a tea set (dejeuner)  was made in two forms, with or without handles. One version, had four lobes of equal size on each side and flattened ends, as this one does, and the other had four large lobes with much smaller ones between them. The handles were also of two forms, one plain with foliated terminals, and the other reeded with looped and foliated terminals. This tray has the former type. The trays  were being made by November 1752 and a second size was in production in 1753. Models for both survive at the factory. The overglaze bleu nouveau ground colour was introduced in 1763."},{"value":"Jean-Louis Morin (1732-87) was employed at the factory from 1754 until 1787. He became a specialist in painting in military, seascape, and harbour scenes, from the end of the  1750s, having worked earlier on cherubs, birds in landscapes, trophies and, from about 1758-63, Teniers scenes.
