Oval with four lobes on the long sides, and flattened ends to which are attached handles with foliated terminals. There are two suspension holes in the footring at right angles to each other (at bottom of scene and right when back is facing viewer). The ground is bleu nouveau vermiculé d'or. The central oval reserve is framed by a gold band with tooled striations, and painted in polychrome with a scene depicting a woman, a merchant, and sailors on a wharf, with cliffs and the sea in the background. One box on the left below the mast is inscribed 'J A' and another '1759'. The box with a jar on top is inscribed 'R' with a six-armed cross formed by two triangles beside it. The large bale on the right is inscribed on the left of its end: interlaced Cs with below, '2' with reversed 'S' beside it, upside down when the scene is the correct way up; and on the right side of the end with a double lined cross and on either side of the cord, 'XX'. On the left of its top 'JV' and top right an 'H' with to its left another not legible sign.
