The author mentions this cream bowl and discovered that its border was pattern 133 in an unidentified early pattern book which he believes is the Daniel & Brown Catalogue. Daniel moved to Spode, and this pattern is also no. 133 in the Spode pattern books.54-8referencepublication-200002820adlib-publication-200002820bc357b53-2830-3d80-8ad1-436f60a5aee3W(***) Enamelled Creamware, The Daniel & Brown ConnectionPubl. p. 143, Fig. 9, and see text p. 144.137-54referencepublication-200002890adlib-publication-20000289071b9d4ea-cb11-3ff1-9bc2-bcb5d229eec5(W***) and Mansfield ConsideredRef. The author discusses the presence of the W(***) mark and B & W on different pieces in part of a service decorated with Angoulème sprig pattern, which lends further support to the association of the W(***) with Whitehead. Birch and Christopher Whitehead were in partnership between c. 1796-98. Birch continued and Whitehead inherited the factory run successively by his father and mother, where he continued until 1804. He also discusses another possible interpretation of the mark - briefly - the Whitehead's inherited the business from their Chatterley uncles in 1793. At that time there were three Whiteheads, James, John, and Charles. He suggests that the three asterisks after a W could have stood for these three Whiteheads. But this does not explain its use later.55-57referencepublication-200002918adlib-publication-2000029187a3de9dc-7a42-30ad-b4d7-09dc161c5942W(***) - Another Pointer to the Whitehead Connectionreferenceterm-9044adlib-term-904499dcb503-1a64-3792-8a40-48eda95dd763Neoclassicalreferenceterm-107560adlib-term-107560a2140f65-c302-3998-badc-65657edee0a6cream bowlcream bowlreferenceterm-120062adlib-term-120062d05176fb-17b8-3888-bba1-6c5e6c77d206lead-glazingreferenceterm-120075adlib-term-12007552ab8602-9259-3aac-b4df-b2392a4d206cturningobject
