DESCRIPTIVE DATA

object type: buff fritware, probably wheel thrown, coated in black slip, carved under a dull crazed pitted turquoise green glaze.
Shape: only body remains, consisting of a straight neck and carinated shoulder with gently sloping sides, probably sat on foot ring and with shorter neck than in reconstruction
Exterior: all decoration is carved into a black slip under the glaze. On the shoulder diamonds, with a circular hole cut in their centre, form a frieze which is enclosed by black lines. This theme is repeated on the body where similar but larger diamonds sit one on top of the other forming a vertical line, with single or double serrated edges. These lines sit amongst floriated Arabic script (kufic) that include shafts terminating inscrolls. The lower body is covered black slip without carving.
Interior: coated with a thinner version of exterior glaze.
