The circular basin has deep sides curving inwards above the foot. The cover is almost flat, with a flange underneath which fits inside the basin, and has a capstan-shaped knob. One side is decorated with two rows of three ships (possibly representing the six ships that Admiral Vernon won the battle with), with the top row facing right, and the bottom left. On the other side, in the centre, is a scene of a harbour and buildings, with three small ships below this, and a larger ship below these. Flanking this scene are two large ships, which themselves are flanked by two figures of Admiral Vernon, which face towards each other. At the top and bottom of the basin is a rouletted border, imitating rope-work. The lid is decorated with four ships, with the same rouletted border, around the rim and finial, as the basin.C.515 & A-19281accession numberC.515 & A-192875360priref75360old object number4057urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/75360https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/75360referenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumDr J. The teapot would not have been made until after March 1740 when the news arrived in England. Similar relief motifs appear on a white salt-glazed stoneware mug in the Schreiber Collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and on a lead-glazed redware bowl in the British Museum (inv. no. 1887,0307,G.30)referenceterm-106451adlib-term-1064519cdfd62c-ee07-3884-ae08-c797aad0863118th Century, Midreferenceterm-107736adlib-term-107736e93a8dd1-d76d-320b-be9b-afa352e322a1George IIwhitereferenceterm-42825adlib-term-42825858e5d17-b554-33d6-936f-25b16f72f39dstonewarereferencemedia-45012adlib-media-450123f4bdea8-c28f-3096-b595-ea42ac041fc7jpegaa/aa7/C_515_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57016162504230521imagejpegaa/aa7/mid_C_515_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels649widthpixels50016162504230521imagejpegaa/aa7/C_515_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57016162504230521imagejpegaa/aa7/preview_C_515_20_26_20A_1928_281_29.jpg1heightpixels325widthpixels25016162504230521image0media
