The author discusses the mark W(***) and B & W for Birch & Whitehead which was found separately on pieces of a service decorated with Angoul\u00e8me sprig pattern, and is further support for associating the W(***) mark with Whitehead. Birch and Christopher Whitehead  were in partnership c. 1796-8. Birch continued, and Whitehead inherited the factory run successively by his father Christopher Charles Whitehead, and his mother Dorothy which he ran till 1804. The author also discusses another possible explanation of the mark - briefly -the Whiteheads inherited the business from their Chatterley uncles. whose business was dissolved in 1793. At the time there were three Whiteheads, James, John, and Charles, so could the three asterisks originally have stood for the three partners? But he points out that this does not explain its use later.","page":"55-7","type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"publication-200002918","uid":"adlib-publication-200002918","uuid":"7a3de9dc-7a42-30ad-b4d7-09dc161c5942"},"summary_title":"W(***) - Another Pointer to the Whitehead Connection"}],"summary":{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-34935","uid":"adlib-term-34935","uuid":"b6750733-fe79-33fc-b39a-c296fcd223b4"},"summary_title":"plate"}},"summary_title":"plate","techniques":[{"note":[{"value":"green"}],"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-120062","uid":"adlib-term-120062","uuid":"d05176fb-17b8-3888-bba1-6c5e6c77d206"},"summary_title":"lead-glazing"}},{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-120085","uid":"adlib-term-120085","uuid":"68c62b7c-aaf4-38a5-a1be-4d6c615c0714"},"summary_title":"press-moulding"}}],"type":{"base":"object","type":"OBJECT"}}
