IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 75604 accession number: C.594-1928 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Wednesday 26 January 2022 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Cream-white stoneware, thrown and turned, salt-glazed, and painted with in red, pink, brown, green, blue, and yellow enamels. The jug has a bulbous body, with a wide lip that is curvy at the sides and flares upwards, with a thickening of clay at the edge. The wide scrolled handle connects to the top of the jug via a protrusion attached to the back of lip, and the top of the body, with an emphasized kick. The jug stands on a short stem expanding into a foot with a base that spreads slightly. The neck of the jug is decorated at the front with a pink, blue and green flower, flanked by a pink and blue flower in a pink and green pot on a low yellow table. Between these plants, at the back of the neck near the handle, is a small green bowl or bottle on a pink stand, with pink lines around it, possibly representing scent. The lip is decorated on the inside of the jug with a large pink and blue peony. The handle has a small blue and green flower on the protrusion joining it to the jug, and a pink and green flowering branch running down half the length of the handle. There are two green dots on either side of the handle at the top, and a green and white flower on the underside of the handle. The neck is separated from the lip and the body by two double red lines. On the front of the body are a man and woman standing on rocks. The man holds a tilted jug while the woman holds a flower. He wears a blue coat and yellow collar over green trousers, while she wears a pink and green dress. Above them fly black and brown birds. The couple are flanked by flowering branches in pink, blue, orange and green, and two butterflies, one uncoloured and the other with dabs of yellow on the wings.
