The glaze is thickly applied and has raised dribbles near the rim, and pin holes here and there. Painted in manganese with touches of yellow and sage-green which has run into the glaze.
Circular with deep, slightly warped sides, standing on a footring.
One side is decorated with Pluto abducting Proserpine in a chariot drawn by two horses, attended by three putti, one of whom holds the reins of the horses and brandishes a whip. Above there are flying birds, and on each side, a tree. On the opposite side the goddess sits with her hands tied behind her back, attended by two putti, one holding a fruit, perhaps a pomegranate. Between these scenes there are landscapes: on the left of the chariot, a cluster of buildings beside a bridge, trees, clumps of foliage, a man on a horse and a man walking with a gun, and flying birds: on the right of the chariot, a group of buildings beside a ruined colonnade, trees and flying birds. The foot is decorated with a horizontal line at the top, a wavy line, and a wide line between two narrow lines. The name 'O FARIELL' is written in manganese across the middle of the inside.C.79-19501accession numberC.79-195076064priref76064urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/76064https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/76064across the middle of the insidein manganeseO FARIELLinscriptionreferenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumGiven by Mrs W.D.
