object type: Cream earthenware, moulded, lead-glazed and transfer-printed in dark green. The circular plate has a wide sloping and slightly concave rim, and a deep well with curved sides. The middle is decorated with three lines of Arabic, reading: ‘God is One. He has no Partner/Mohammad is the Prophet of God/ . . . . .. On the rim are the names of the first four Caliphs: ‘O Abu Bakr’, ‘O Othman’, O Omar’ and O Ali’ and ‘There is no God but the One God’ twice, separated by foliated scrolls. The edge is encircled by a narrow green band, and a broad green band.
