The figures are mainly white, with features picked out in enamels and gilt. The man stands, leaning on the wall, with legs crossed. He holds a black-handled spade and a basket of brightly coloured flowers, and wears a long jacket, knee breeches and waistcoat, with a black bow at his neck. To his left, the woman sits upon the wall supporting a young girl, who stands upon it. The woman wears a dress and apron, and a blue headscarf with brown spots over a lace cap. The child has long hair and wears a dress with a full skirt. All three have black shoes. The oval base is squared at one end and has a gilt line across the front.
