The woman stands on a square plinth coloured to resemble marble, and is washing her hands in a basin supported on a tripod which is hung with festoons of laurel. She wears classical costume, comprising a yellow cloak thrown over a pink tunic with a long grey robe beneath it, and on her head has a chaplet of blue, pink and purple, flowers with green leaves.
