The scene may have been after a print by Franz Hegi (1744-1850), a Swiss artist who produced many prints of Swiss views and society. Four plates from the same series illustrating the peasant costume from different Cantons are in the Historisches Museum, Olten (see Documentation).\n\nThe Baylon Factory operated between 1812 and 1879. It was founded by Abraham Baylon and his father- in-law Antoine Franck in rue Caroline, Carouge, in Switzerland, and the company was registered in 1813 as Baylon & Co. In 1817 it became a limited company, Baylon & Comp. and in 1827, a joint stock company. After the death of Abraham Baylon in 1829, and of Antoine Franck in 1830, the enterprise was directed by Marie Madeleine, the widow of Baylon, and was titled Veuve Baylon & Cie. From 1836 her son Antoine Baylon, joined her and it became Veuve Baylon & Fils. Antoine became the sole proprietor in 1843, and on his death in 1866, his widow, Fanny Baylon-Lautard took over. The mark BAYLON, which appears most often on their products, was probably introduced in the early 1820s."}],"periods":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-120816","uid":"adlib-term-120816","uuid":"b8c35cb6-f02f-34c9-9dda-b3120e12c749"},"summary_title":"19th Century, second quarter"}],"places":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-116920","uid":"adlib-term-116920","uuid":"4167c334-327b-35df-947e-450025c489f7"},"hierarchies":[[{"@link":{"type":"literal"},"name":[{"value":"Switzerland"}],"summary_title":"Switzerland","type":"country"},{"@link":{"type":"literal"},"name":[{"value":"Canton of Geneva"}],"summary_title":"Canton of Geneva","type":"region"}]],"summary_title":"Carouge"}]}]},"materials":[{"note":[{"value":"cream"}],"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-42861","uid":"adlib-term-42861","uuid":"5b368285-f1a8-3dcf-a5b2-637fd3c3956c"},"summary_title":"earthenware"}}],"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","units":"cm","value":"21"},{"dimension":"Height","units":"cm","value":"2"}]},"multimedia":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"media-48037","uid":"adlib-media-48037","uuid":"96761397-c50e-36dc-b124-e0472028019b"},"processed":{"large":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa1\/C_1973_1928.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1742583665755,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"mid":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa1\/mid_C_1973_1928.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":649},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":500}]},"modified":1742583665755,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"original":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa1\/C_1973_1928.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":740},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":570}]},"modified":1742583665755,"resizable":true,"type":"image"},"preview":{"format":"jpeg","location":"aa\/aa1\/preview_C_1973_1928.jpg","location_is_relative":true,"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"height","units":"pixels","value":325},{"dimension":"width","units":"pixels","value":250}]},"modified":1742583665755,"resizable":true,"type":"image"}},"sort":"0","type":{"base":"media","type":"image"}}],"name":[{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-34935","uid":"adlib-term-34935","uuid":"b6750733-fe79-33fc-b39a-c296fcd223b4"},"summary_title":"plate"}}],"note":[{"type":"history note","value":"Mr G.
