The jug stands on a cylindrical base. It has a bulbous body, a narrow, slightly tapering cylindrical neck with cordons at the top and bottom, a long spout rising upwards from the shoulder and attached to the neck by a bridge near the top, and a loop handle. On each side of the body is a small medallion with the initials and date EH/1576 at the top over a shield of arms: quarterly: 1,4, three escallops; 2,3, three lozenges (Herema), impaling: a rose between in chief a mullet and in base a fleur-de-lys (Aylva), supported by two rampant lions. Above is a lion's mask flanked by two flowers, and below a serrated leaf flanked by two flowers. On the front of the neck is a shield bearing the arms of the Duchy of Julich, Cleves and Berg. To the left of it is a figure of Adam standing beside a stag, flanked by lion's masks and four flowers, and on the right, a figure of Eve standing beside a doe with similar motifs. At the base of the spout there is a bearded mask and on either side of the spout four flowers. The handle has a serrated leaf on each side at the top and three pairs of flowers at intervals below.
