The wash does not extend to the base, and has dribbled at the front during salt-glazing. The jug has an ovoid body contracting into a short cylindrical neck with cordons round the mouth. The small loop handle has an extension at the lower end which rests on the shoulder. On the neck is a bearded face mask, and below it on either side, are two small applied rosettes. Further down is an oval medallion, enclosing a shield bearing a merchant's mark, flanked by stars, and at the bottom, the date, '1688'.
