The barrel is curved at one end and flat at the other, and rests horizontally on four small feet. On top it has a central short neck, and at either end a loop handle for lifting. On the rounded end is an applied medallion with St John and the mighty angel with a book (Revelation, X, I) surrounded by incised wavy bands; and on the other end, a circle of impressed rosettes, some of which are on applied S-shaped pads of clay, and at the top, an oval pad moulded with a helmet and crest (demi-figure of a hound); at the bottom there are traces of a large applied medallion, now missing, sourrounding a hole, probably for a spigot. Around the neck there is a circle of impressed rosettes, and around the body on either side of the neck is a series of incised lines flanked by scalloped lines. Around the rounded end, level with the handle there is a circle of incised wavy lines and a circle of scalloped lines, and at the other end, level with the handle, a circle of incised wavy lines.C.2083-19281accession numberC.2083-192876599priref76599old object number2485urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/76599https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/76599referenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumDr J.
