object type: Buff earthenware,  the dish moulded, with an applied central ring, and the cover thrown and covererd with moulded and modelled crayfish, tin-glazed and painted in blue, dark yellowish-green, yellow, red, reddish-brown, and black  The glaze has 'crawled' inside the cover, also a little on the back of the rim of the dish. The eight-sided  dish has a shaped rim, shallow curved sides, and an applied central cylindrical container for potted crayfish. This is surrounded by three pairs of sprays of stylized flowers and foliage. The high, domed cover fits over the central container. It is plain inside and on the outside is painted dark green at the bottom to resemble seaweed. The reddish-brown crayfish are arranged around it in tiers with their heads pointing downwards and it has one placed sideways across the top to serve as a knob.
