IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 76725 accession number: C.2352-1928 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Tuesday 16 September 2025 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Buff earthenware, thrown, tin-glazed on the front, and painted in blue, greyish-green, yellow and manganese-purple. The reverse has clear, presumed lead glaze over cream slip. The dish is circular with an acutely sloping border, and curved well, and stands on a footring pierced by a suspension hole. The rim has warped during firing so that the depth of the dish is uneven. In the middle there are four concentric purple circles, from which radiate four petal-shaped outlines painted finely in black, with blue horizontal strokes over them. Each of these contains a stylized plant with a flower reminiscent of a lily. Between the petal outlines there are four radiating plants with a pair of blue leaves and a green bud or flower, and above them, near the rim, a pair of inward scrolls between sets of four blue strokes of graduated size. The rim is encircled by a broad purple band. object type: tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, greyish-green, yellow, manganese-purple, and black with stylized plant motifs radiating from concentric circles in the middle title: dish NOTES ----- type: history note value: Bought at Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1896 by Dr J.W.L.
