object type: Buff earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed, and  painted overglaze in blue, green, yellow, pale and dark mauve, red, dark brown, and black enamels. There two peg marks on the back of the rim, and part of two more.The tureen and its cover are in the form of a melon with a short stalk at one end. The cover has a handle in the shape of a stem with two groups of three leaves at its thick end, and three at its tip. The lower part is attached to a deep oval dish with curved sides opening outwards to the a wavy rim, and standing on a footring. The melon and its handle is painted naturalistically in yellow and shades of green. The dish is decorated with seven stylized floral sprays, and an insect. A dark brown band runs round the wavy edge.  On the base, 'C.B.' in blue.
