    <value>Soft-paste porcelain figure of Europe, painted in enamels and gilt, and inscribed 'EUROPE' on the front of the base</value>
  </description>
  <description>
    <value>Soft-paste porcelain figure of Europe, slip-cast, with applied moulded details, painted over lead-glaze in blue, green, yellow, pale flesh orange, orange, pink, dark pink, and greyish-black, and gilt.. The closed underside has three patch marks and a large circular ventilation hole. The approximately circular mound base has slightly incurved sides with two kidney-shaped holes on each side between scrolls, and at the front, an asymmetrical cartouche inscribed &#x2018;EUROPE&#x2019; in gold. At the back there is a tree stump with two lateral branches bearing small applied flowers and leaves. The girl stands with her feet together, her left arm raised, and her right arm near her side, holding an orb in the hand. She has ruddy cheeks, and black hair drawn up into a pony tail. On her head she has a white crown sem&#xE9; with gold dots, and lined with orange, attached to a white and gold headband. She wears a long flowered dress, off the left shoulder, and a turquoise drape lined with pink. The edges of the dress and belt are have a gilt edging. On the base on her left there is an upside down cornucopia of fruit, a painter's palette, a mitre on a book, and another book with a sheet of paper over it. On her right there is a cornucopia of fruit, a pink helmet and two gold and white batons. In front of her is a pink flask, a pink and brown gavel, telescope, and set square and a gold object with a round end. The base is picked out in pink, turquoise and gold.</value>
