The man is playing bagpipes, and wears a curly wig, cocked hat, frock coat, knee breeches, white ribbed stockings, and dark brown shoes with white buckles. The woman holds a pug dog on her lap, wearing a tight bodice and wide skirt with details in dark bown clay. The back of the bench is decorated with a vase of conventional flower motives, incised and inlaid with brown slip. There are plaited threads of brown and white clay along the arms of the bench.
