The glazed underside is concave and has two ventilation holes to the left of centre. The oval base has sloping sides and an almost flat top painted here and there with green. At the back on the viewer’s left there is a tall urn-shaped vase with gold edges, and beside it a group of small applied leaves (now chipped off). On the top at the front there is the remnant of a pink flower, and a leaf. The nymph steps forward on her left leg with her upper body in contraposto. She looks and leans downwards and in both hands holds a large shallow shell filled with two mottled pink shells, coral and pearls. Her long greyish-brown hair hangs down in two wavy tresses over her shoulders and at the sides of her head is interwoven with green ribbon and peals. her face is delicated tinted flesh-pink, and she has black eyes, and red lips.
