The shouldered body is gently tapered towards the slightly splayed, unglazed base. The sides are decorated with a continuous garden scene of a peacock perched on an outcrop of pierced green rockwork surrounded by sprays of iron-red flowering tree peony, bamboo and an iron-red camellia, a songbird is perched on one of its branches and two similar birds are in flight nearby, and the sun setting in the sky above. All reserved against a ground of iron-red scale diaper. There is a border of overlapping petals in red, green and yellow round the base and a narrow classic scroll band round the shoulders beneath the short flared neck with lipped rim, encircled by a band of alternating red and green sharp pointed petals. All between line borders in faint underglaze blue.
