Hard-paste porcelain painted in a clear, bright enamel palette of iron-red, turquoise, two tones of green, yellow, aubergine and blue with details in black and gilding. The shallow flared sides are divided into twenty-four lobes beneath the short rim which is angled upwards with a scalloped edge. The interior is well painted with a central medallion showing a phoenix perched on an outcrop of jagged rockwork, flanked by peonies and a leafy maple tree, gazing up at its mate in flight above, and encircled by a border of different diaper patterns reserved with six iron-red lotus vignettes. The cavetto is divided into eight radiating panels alternately enclosing mountainous landscsapes, flowering sprays and members of the 'Hundred Antiques'. There is a border of multi-coloured flowerheads within circles round the rim. The underside is decorated with four sprays of iron-red peony. object type: Dish.
