Shape: irregular bi-conical bowl on a disc base with a square, pie crust rim. Interior: coated in a white slip which, on the body, is carved to form a spread eagle wearing a collar against a background of scrolling palmettes and half-plamettes. The eagle’s wings and two palmettes are incised with medallions. Splashes of dark purple are evident in the glaze which pools slightly in the base. Three scar marks in the base indicate the use of a tripod stacking device in the kiln, a scar mark on the rim indicates contact with another vessel during firing. Exterior: the neck is incised with a frieze of curved incised lines.
