The virgins are shown in two rows above each other. At the top we see the wise virgins, their lamps raised high, below the foolish ones hold their extinguished lamps and cry into their handkerchiefs. They are all wearing bridal gowns. The upper part of the bodies is frontal but they turn slightly from the waist so that their ornate skirts are seen partly in profile and they overlap a little. The haloed figure at the top left is probably Christ, the bridegroom. The man at the bottom right may be the seller of the oil. title: tapestry LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Applied Arts creditline: Given by Mrs Beasley STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/77887 TECHNIQUES ---------- weaving CATEGORIES ------ category: woven textiles DATING ------ creation date: 1658 - 1658 creation date earliest: 1658 creation date latest: 1658 culture: 17th Century# CREATORS -------- maker: Unknown DIMENSIONS ---------- dimension: Length units: ft value: 6'2" dimension: Width units: ft value: 4'11.1/2 IMAGES surrogate: large format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/aa/aa10/T_1_1945.jpg height: 740 pixels width: 612 pixels surrogate: mid format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/aa/aa10/mid_T_1_1945.jpg height: 605 pixels width: 500 pixels surrogate: original format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/aa/aa10/T_1_1945.jpg height: 740 pixels width: 612 pixels surrogate: preview format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/aa/aa10/preview_T_1_1945.jpg height: 302 pixels width: 250 pixels
