I then commanded. \/ In 1854 going into action at the Alma he threw away \/ a little Capote he had, which I had offered to carry on \/ my horse for him, saying that he should never want it \/ again - Shortly afterwards as we advanced over the beaten \/ enemy, he was Shot dead through the back by a wounded \/ Prussian Soldier, to whom he had given some brandy \/ and water as he passed him. \/ His younger brother half maddened at the Sight \/ rushed furiously on the enemy, and was shot to pieces. \/ On the arrival of these drawings in Europe the poor \/ widow requested me to accept them. \/ I leave the book to my daughter Caroline. \/ J.
