<value>These Chinese Drawings were ordered for me by Captain Ed- / dington 95th Rgt in 1853. He was Captain of th Genadier [sic] / Company of the 95th - which Rgt. I then commanded. / In 1854 going into action at the Alma he threw away / a little Capote he had, which I had offered to carry on / my horse for him, saying that he should never want it / again - Shortly afterwards as we advanced over the beaten / enemy, he was Shot dead through the back by a wounded / Prussian Soldier, to whom he had given some brandy / and water as he passed him. / His younger brother half maddened at the Sight / rushed furiously on the enemy, and was shot to pieces. / On the arrival of these drawings in Europe the poor / widow requested me to accept them. / I leave the book to my daughter Caroline. / J.
