IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 81321 accession number: P.30-1979 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Thursday 2 March 2023 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Two letters from Miss Rushforth relating to the gift are stored with the print. They provide some biographical detail; Yolande Marie Louise de Varnay (sometimes known as Pauline Duvernay) was a ballerina, trained by Marie Taglioni, and married Mr Lyne-Stephens, a wealthy Englishman in 1845. She moved to Lynford Hall, Near Norwich, Norfolk and when her husband died in 1861 she was left with a vast fortune. The widow formed a passionate attachment to a general who had been British Ambassador to France, which apparently caused a scandal. After the death of the general, Mrs Lyne-Stephens decided to give her money to charities and built the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs in Cambridge. Within the chruch is a bust of the widow and the coat of arms of her husband. The original portrait by Carolus-Duran was at some point on display in the church. Mrs Lyne-Stephens died in 1894. title: print NOTES ----- type: history note value: Given by Mrs Lyne-Stephens to Miss Rushforth's grandfather, then passed to her LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Paintings, Drawings and Prints STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/81321 TECHNIQUES ---------- etching CATEGORIES ------ category: print DATING ------ creation date: 1890 - 1890 creation date earliest: 1890 creation date latest: 1890 CREATORS -------- maker: Boilvin, Emile maker: Carolus-Duran, Emile Auguste IMAGES surrogate: large format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/pdp/pdp22/P_30_1979.jpg height: 760 pixels width: 533 pixels surrogate: mid format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/pdp/pdp22/mid_P_30_1979.jpg height: 713 pixels width: 500 pixels surrogate: original format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/pdp/pdp22/P_30_1979.jpg height: 760 pixels width: 533 pixels surrogate: preview format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/pdp/pdp22/preview_P_30_1979.jpg height: 356 pixels width: 250 pixels surrogate: large format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/634/148/large_P_30_1979_mas.jpg height: 1460 pixels width: 1024 pixels surrogate: mid format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/634/148/mid_P_30_1979_mas.jpg height: 713 pixels width: 500 pixels surrogate: original location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/P.30-1979_mas.jpg surrogate: preview format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/634/148/preview_P_30_1979_mas.jpg height: 356 pixels width: 250 pixels surrogate: zoom format: pyramid tiff location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/portfolio/F25982D9_7CB9_CFFF_028E_8BBFC531887C/634/148/P_30_1979_mas.ptif height: 4723 pixels width: 3313 pixels
