Circular, with shaped rim of six large arcs alternating with six small, gently sloping border and shallow well. There is a hole for suspension in the footring, which has been broken away at this point. The white centre is painted in polychrome with two birds; one stands on the ground with its left leg raised and its head turned sharply to the left; behind it to the left is a sprouting tree stump, on a branch of which is perched a second bird which looks downwards, its wings spread behind it. In the foreground to the left there is a plant with blue daisy-like flowers and in the background to the right, hazy trees. The rim has an apple green ground decorated in gold with oeil-de-perdrix. There is a gold band round the inner edge of the rim and a dentilated band round the outer edge.C.42-19611accession numberC.42-196193588priref93588urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/93588https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/93588each L has a projection near the top before the cross overon basepainted in blue enamelinterlaced L's enclosing qfactory markon basepainted in blue enamelcppainter's markon the baseincisedc / Vmarkr of Senr is raisedon baseprinted in black and hand-written in faded black ink'SEVRES' printed, 'Painter Chapuis Senr/Date/1768' hand-writtenlabelreferenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumL. Patterned grounds with tiny white circular reserves and gold oeil-de-perdrix decoration introduced about 1765 were associated with the painter Taillandier, and when they had a green ground were referred to as 'fond Taillandier vert' or 'fond pointillé vert'.The decoration in the centre of the dish suggests strongly that it was painted much later than 1769 which its date letter indicates. The design resembles, but not exactly, the plates from the Eden Service of 1787, which is decorated with birds from the comte de Buffon's Histoire naturelle des oiseaux.referenceterm-113159adlib-term-1131594bdfb4a7-b307-3dfa-a3d6-8ada4683271e18th Century, third quarter#referenceterm-106853adlib-term-10685325492eb4-1164-35eb-8dce-3601486f341519th Centuryreferenceterm-113750adlib-term-1137509c94e435-9cde-38f2-b190-3a9ff2a77005literalFranceFrancecountrySèvrespresumed lead-glazereferenceterm-107733adlib-term-10773300160189-e3ce-3796-a88b-5aa8d6c808c4lead-glazereferenceterm-37637adlib-term-3763789b09133-dc0a-3a88-bd40-5aef1ad30ecbsoft-paste porcelainDiametercm24.3Heightcm2.5referencemedia-67133adlib-media-67133dc15cee1-93e4-3dae-8db5-1448446396dejpegaa/aa23/C_42_1961.jpg1heightpixels760widthpixels59316162811032761imagejpegaa/aa23/mid_C_42_1961.jpg1heightpixels641widthpixels50016162811032761imagejpegaa/aa23/C_42_1961.jpg1heightpixels760widthpixels59316162811032761imagejpegaa/aa23/preview_C_42_1961.jpg1heightpixels320widthpixels25016162811032761image0media
