<value>The hoard of over 150,000 pieces of porcelain was discovered in a 15th century wreck off the coast of Hoi An, Vietnam in the South China Sea in 1997 ? It was salvaged by Saga Horizons, a Malaysian-based company, who agreed to give 10% of the finds to Vietnamese museums. The rest was sold either by Butterfields in San Franciso, or, for the less important pieces, through their parent company, Ebay, over the internet. (Information from Auction Preview of 7 September 2000. There were huge numbers of dishes of this type in the sale batched up in lots of ten, and it has not been possible to identify this one. It does not match any of the illustrations on pp. 139-141 of the catalogue, but might have been among the dishes in lots 1262-4 on p. 139, or lots 1265-7, 9 on p. 140 or lot 1270 or 1273-5 on p. 141.</value>
