      <note>
        <value>The hoard of over 150,000 pieces of porcelain was discovered in a 15th century wreck off the coast of Hoi An, Vietnam in the South China Sea in 1997 ? It was salvaged by Saga Horizons, a Malaysian-based company, who agreed to give 10% of the finds to Vietnamese museums. The rest was sold either by Butterfields in San Franciso, or, for the less important pieces, through their parent company, Ebay, over the internet. (Information from Auction Preview of 7 September 2000. It has not been possible to identify this pot in the sale Catalogue among those batched up in groups of twenty on the first day of the sale. It most closely resembles the illustrations of jars from lots 553 and 554, or possibly unillustrated lot 555, for which average sizes of 9 cm are given. Also possible was lot 556, twenty jars average size 8.5 described as similar.</value>
