The robber Ono Sadakuro murders The old farmer Yoichibei, having arranged to sell his daughter Okaru to a Kyoto brothel in order to raise money for the impoverished Kampei to jion the ronin, is returning home with a purse full of gold when he is set upon by the robber Ono Sadakuro, who kills him and takes the money. The woman in the foreground, like Sadakuro, wears a black costume and carries an umbrella.
