Most of the hexafoil examples are decorated on the base with a landscape, surrounded by stylized flowers and birds in translucent enamels over foils in a black ground embellished with gold foliage. Others have floral decoration on a white ground.The central medallion inside may be of a religious, classical, or other secular subjects, and the interior sides are usually decorated with polychrome flowers and birds on a white ground in either a continuous band or in panels. Many of them bear the initials ‘.I.L.’ and these have usually been attributed to Jacques Laudin I (c. 1627-95), for example by Darcel and Marquet de Vasselot, although it is possible that some of them were executed by his nephew Jacques II Laudin (c. 1663-1729). However, the decoration of the reverse of the Fitzwilliam’s bowl, resembles that on other pieces attributed to Jacques I Laudin.

Cupid riding a lion, emblematic of the power of Love occurs on several of the bowls. The Fitzwilliam's bust lacks both the socle found with some examples, and the rococo style wall bracket to support it, which is more rare. Their attribution is contentious. Since the 19th century they been variously attributed to Chelsea, Plymouth. Bow, Worcester, Chaffers Liverpool, and most recently Vauxhall. On accession this bust was attributed to Chelsea, although its glaze is unlike Chelsea porcelain. It was reattributed to Richard Chaffers' Factory, Liverpool, by Dr Bernard Watney in 1968. This reattribution rested on spectrographic analysis of two examples respectively in the British Museum and in Dr Watney's collection. These showed that the body contained soapstone (steatite), which suggested Liverpool as a possible place of manufacture. Worcester porcelain is also steatitic, but as that factory made very few figures the bust is unlikely to have been made there. More recently the Vauxhall factory which also made steatitic soft-paste, has been adopted as an alternative. Accepting any of these three attributions would place the busts' date of manufacture in the late 1740s or 1750s, as it seems unlikely that they were made after the King's death. Analysis of early products of the Bow factory have indicated that some of them contained steatite, and that therefore this bust might equally have been made by the Bow factory before its establishment in the New Canton factory in Essex. This would place its date in the mid 1740s when the King was popular after his participation in the Battle of Dettingen in 1743 and the defeat of the Stuart Rebellion of 1745-6. The two most recent publications on the busts, Bimson, 2011, and Daniels and Ramsay, 2013 weigh these possibilities, and give the current locations of the recorded examples.
@link":
18th Century, She holds a knife in her right hand, and has a cabbage under her left arm. By her feet on the viewer's left there is an applied flower, and a basket filled with cabbages, asparagus and carrots. The woman has ruddy cheeks, red lips and brown hair drawn back loosely into a chignon at the back. Her bodice is yellow with pink outlining on the stomacher. She has a yellow shawl and a pink floral patterned scarf round her shoulders and tucked into a blue strap across the top of her stomacher. Her pink skirt is scattered with darker pink daisies. Her apron is blue, and her shoes are yellow. The cabbage under her arm is green, the flower on the ground is orange-red, and the basket is brown with naturalistically coloured vegetables.
