The top of the base outside the grotto is turquoise-green. He rests his right hand on the girl's shoulder and leans towards her tenderly. She holds a small shell in her left hand which is extended in front of her, and with her right, holds a large shell with a purple interior filled with small shells, coral and seaweed which rests on her right hip. She has long grey hair, black brows and eyes, pink cheeks and red lips. On her head she has a wreath of sea weed with a white shell at the front. Her silver tunic reveals her right breast and arm, and on the top edge has a green turn back or scarf, bound with ropes of pearls. Round her left sleeve she has a matching looped up green scarf. Her white skirt is decorated with narrow gold stripes entwined by stems of stylized flowers, and is looped up to reveal her lower left leg.  Attached to the back of her right shoulder by means of a green garland is a long green cloak lined with pale salmon pink with a pale green moss-like edging. Her sandals are also green. Oceanus stands on his  left leg with his right leg advanced. He has his right hand on his hip, and his left arm outstretched in a commanding pose. His head is tilted back slightly and he looks to his left towards the viewer. He has grey hair and beard, black eyes and brows,  pink cheeks, and red lips. His silvered cap is trimmed with green ribbon sea weed. He wears a tunic which leaves his right upper torso bare, and is longer at the back than at the front where it is above his knees. The tunic is silvered, and on the upper edge has a pale green turn back bound with a double rope of pearls, and on the lower edges is decorated with applied green 'moss' and five mauve shells.His left arm is covered by a silver sleeve trimmed with 'moss' which is held on by a garland of seaweed passing across his naked chest to his left hip. On the rim there are thirty raditaing panels outlined in gold painted with a floral spray of a rose and tulip, numbered 1-4, 1-8 , a and b 1a-1d and 2a, 2b 3 and 4. Sprays 1-4 are black, 1-8, a and b puce-purple, 1a \u2013 1d and 2a, 2b 3 and 4, iron red. The glazed underside has a straight-sided oval support set in from the edge, and five circular ventilation holes: a small, a medium, and a large at the front, and two small at the back. The broad oval base, has a scrolled and frilled edge, and a tall tree at the back, in front of which is a Rococo scrolled arbour with a tall pedestal at the back and two low pedestals at the front. The frilled edge is puce, and the pedestals are decorated with a puce trellis with four dots in each cell. The scrolls are edged in gold. A mask is perched on the viewer's left of the tall pedestal, and a skate lies on the base below it. At centre front there is a log fire and a bent stick. One child, nude and wearing a scanty white drape decorated with red floral sprigs, and a white cloak with grey patches, stands on the tall pedestal holding a black mask in his left hand. Below him on the viewers left is a seated boy warming his hands at the fire. He wears a black fur-edged cap, a white fur-edged cloat with a puce floral pattern and gold buttons, and puce striped breeches. On the viewer's right is a seated nude child wearing a pale yellow drape which he holds to his head with his left hand while looking down towards the fire. Further to the right is a seated child tying a skate onto this left foot. He is nude apart from a green, fur-edged cloak which covers his head and back, yellow socks, and skates. He has greyish-brown hair, a droopy black moustache and eyes, and red lips. He wears a long iron-red and white striped gown with yellow cuffs and collar, and a puce striped sash.
