The copis and adaptations wee mainly of single figures or pairs. Groups were attempted infrequently, probably because fewer seem to have been imported, and because they posed greater technical problems for inexperienced English modellers. The 'Indiscreet Harlequin' was based on a Meissen group (model number 344) modelled by J.J. Kaendler, about 1742, but not mentioned in his Taxa or work notes. Like many of his groups, it displays a sly sense of humour, rarely found in English groups. The Bow group differs from the Meissen model in minor details, such as the shape of the lover's hat. The pose of Columbine may have been inspired by an engraving of Columbine and Harlequin from Les Amours de Columbine by Petrus Schenck after drawings by G\u00e9rard-Joseph Xavery, and Harlequin's pose by that in Harlequin and the Blind Beggar, plate 32 of Gregorio Lambranzi, New and Eccentric School of Theatrical Dancing, 1716. The back of her bodice is half pink and half yellow; the front blue, and the pink and yellow sleeves are decorated with playing cards. Her full skirt is decorated with sprays of polychrome flowers and foliage on the front, and with scrolls and playing cards on the back. Its lower edge has a pinkish-red painted flounce. It modelled by Johann Christian Wilhelm Beyer (1725-1806) who was the chief modeller at the factory between 1759 and 1767, who had studied in Rome and was also influenced by the neoclassical theories of Winckelmann. The delicate colouring, which flatters the greyish Ludwigsburg paste, retains a faintly rococo character. The slender proportions of the figure may indicate that its immediate source was one of the many reduced-size bronzes, for example by Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi, several of which were in German collections."}],"periods":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-113159","uid":"adlib-term-113159","uuid":"4bdfb4a7-b307-3dfa-a3d6-8ada4683271e"},"summary_title":"18th Century, third quarter"}],"places":[{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-116808","uid":"adlib-term-116808","uuid":"b8e898ec-ff69-3f8c-817a-f09349bf0cb6"},"hierarchies":[[{"@link":{"type":"literal"},"name":[{"value":"Germany"}],"summary_title":"Germany","type":"country"},{"@link":{"type":"literal"},"name":[{"value":"W\u00fcrttemberg"}],"summary_title":"W\u00fcrttemberg","type":"region"}]],"summary_title":"Ludwigsburg"}]}]},"materials":[{"note":[{"value":"clear"}],"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-32652","uid":"adlib-term-32652","uuid":"82d8ae3b-f165-395c-ba93-dfa1c282b7be"},"summary_title":"glaze"}},{"note":[{"value":"greyish-white"}],"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-37627","uid":"adlib-term-37627","uuid":"254febfe-0021-3e45-89a7-d57ba40044c7"},"summary_title":"hard-paste porcelain"}}],"measurements":{"dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","units":"cm","value":"33.5"}]},"name":[{"reference":{"@link":{"type":"reference"},"admin":{"id":"term-107454","uid":"adlib-term-107454","uuid":"6ca0f2ab-c1f8-329d-8a45-8f1322f53a20"},"summary_title":"figure"}}],"note":[{"type":"history note","value":"Frank Stoner, London from whom purchased for \u00a340 on 23 July 1913 by Dr J.W.L.
