The truncated conical pot has a flat loop handle with a kick at its lower end, a tall curved spout terminating in a monster's head, and a shallow domed cover with an acorn-shaped knob. On one side there is an elegant Chinese woman holding a flower standing beside a fence, and on the other a seated Chinese man holding a red parasol, and a standing woman, flanked by flowering plants growing from the ground and from tall stylized rocks. Round the top of the pot there is a border of  turquoise Chinese trellis diaper broken by panels of flowers. Both sides of the spout are decorated with a long spray of small red leaves. On the other side, in the centre, is a scene of a harbour and buildings, with three small ships below this, and a larger ship below these. Flanking this scene are two large ships, which themselves are flanked by two figures of Admiral Vernon, which face towards each other. At the top and bottom of the basin is a rouletted border, imitating rope-work. The pot is lozenge-shaped and stands on a lozenge-shaped foot. The spout rises from a monster's open mouth on one angle. The handle is applied to the opposite angle. It has two notches on the top, and an upward kick at the lower end. The slightly domed, lozenge-shaped cover is surmounted by a lizard knob. In the middle of each side of the body there is a depressed panel enclosing a double shell motif in relief, surrounded by birds amid wavy stems of foliage and flowers in intaglio painted in blue. Amongst the best known of these was the Comte de Ferriol\u2019s 'Receuil de cent estampes representant diff\u00e9rentes nations du Levant. . . Paris, 1714. Another edition was printed in 1715, and a smaller German edition in two volumes with some plates reversed 'Wahrest und neueste Abbildung des T\u00fcrchisches Hofes' was published by Christoph Weigel at Nuremberg in 1719, and 1721 (with Der in front of title). The plates in the 'Receuil' were engraved by several artists from drawings made in 1707 and 1708 by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour (1671-1737), who was a member of de Ferriol\u2019s entourage during the ten years from 1699 which he spent as Louis XIV\u2019s Ambassador to the Sublime Porte. They depicted the Sultan, his Court and the various people of the Ottoman Empire who frequented Istanbul. The Sultana Asseki (the title given to the Sultan\u2019s second wife who had borne a son) Meissen model no. 1287, corresponds to pl. 3 in Weigel, vol. The wall behind the spout is pierced by six holes to emit the tea. The hexagonal, slightly convex cover is moulded to match. It has a central ventilation hole (blocked by glaze), and a handle formed by a twisted stem. The pot is decorated with a green ground except for the base. On each side there is a roughly oval reserve with a dark puce border, enclosing on one side a vase of flowers, and on the other, a basket of flowers in Oriental style. The base is rectangular with incurved sides. Applied to its top is a shallow oval  area of ground with on its left end a low stone or tree stump on which the Spinario is seated. He has shoulder-length hair curling back from his forehead, and is nude apart from a flower which conceals his genitals. He has his right leg outstretched and his left raised and bent at the knee so that the foot rests on his right thigh. The reliefs were originally embellished with oil gilding but little of this remains. The fibres of the latter were used to make ropes, bee hives, mattresses, and other things.  The tea shrub was also copied on an octagonal English delftware tea caddy in the Fitzwilliam Museum, C.1536-1928.
